China warns against pseudo-history claims denying Greece and Aristotle
The warning comes from a Zhejiang provincial propaganda account and targets a trend it says spreads online and weakens shared understanding, despite promoting national confidence.
A provincial propaganda department in China has cautioned the public against conspiracy theories that deny key parts of Western history, including claims that Aristotle and Ancient Greece never existed, according to a post from “Zhejiang Propaganda.”
The account said the “pseudo-historical school” has become a negative ideological trend spreading on the internet, and it framed the narrative as another form of cultural insecurity that distorts how civilizations exchanged ideas.
The post also said that such claims may appear to boost national confidence, but in reality it reflects ignorance of historical exchanges between cultures.
It tied the broader theme to “cultural confidence,” which the outlet said became part of President Xi Jinping’s “Four Confidences,” later incorporated into the Communist Party constitution.
