Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan boost Bitcoin and Ethereum ETF holdings

Morgan Stanley lifted its iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) stake by 23% in Q2 to about 16.5 million shares, though the position value fell to about $549 million as Bitcoin declined.

Morgan Stanley and JPMorgan increased their holdings of crypto investment products during the second quarter, adding to exposure to both Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs even as crypto prices were volatile, according to a Form 13F filing cited by Yahoo Finance.

Morgan Stanley raised its IBIT position by 23% from the prior quarter to about 16.5 million shares at the end of June, up from 13.4 million. The reported value fell to roughly $549 million from $667 million, reflecting a decline in Bitcoin during the period, and the bank also held about 2.57 million shares of its own Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust, valued at about $43.3 million.

On the Ethereum side, Morgan Stanley increased its iShares Ethereum Trust ETF holdings by about 202% to 4.6 million shares. It also grew its position in Grayscale's Ethereum Staking Mini ETF by 26% to 5.1 million shares, and opened positions in two Solana funds, including about $4.25 million in Grayscale's Solana staking ETF and about $2.26 million in Fidelity's Solana fund.

JPMorgan reported higher exposure as well, with its IBIT holdings climbing to about 10.4 million shares from 8.3 million, worth about $356 million at the end of June. The bank also reported its BlackRock Ether ETF position rising more than fourfold to about 1.17 million shares, and it listed small positions in two XRP investment products after holding none the prior quarter, along with a new position in a Solana staking ETF.
