Morgan Stanley boosts BlackRock’s Bitcoin ETF position by 23% in Q2
Morgan Stanley’s IBIT share count rose to about 16.5 million in Q2, even as the position’s reported value fell about 18% to around $549 million on lower Bitcoin prices.
Morgan Stanley reported larger crypto-related holdings in its Q2 13F filing, with its BlackRock iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF position leading the increase. According to Cointelegraph, the firm’s reported IBIT holdings rose 23% to around 16.5 million shares from 13.4 million.
Morgan Stanley also disclosed a rise in other Bitcoin-related exposures. Its Q2 filings showed reported holdings of its own Morgan Stanley Bitcoin Trust (MSBT) at about 2.57 million shares, and it added shares to several smaller Bitcoin ETF positions, including Grayscale Bitcoin Mini Trust ETF (BTC) and Bitwise Bitcoin ETF (BITB).
Despite the share increases, Cointelegraph reported the value of the IBIT position fell about 18% to roughly $549 million from $667 million, attributing the drop to Bitcoin’s decline during the quarter. Morgan Stanley also reported growth in Ether-related ETF positions, including iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) up about 202% to 4.6 million shares.
The filing further showed expanded stablecoin exposure and additional crypto sector positions. Cointelegraph said Morgan Stanley increased reported Circle Internet Group (CRCL) holdings, the company behind the USDC stablecoin, from about 1.46 million shares to 8.32 million shares, alongside new exposure to Solana-related products.
