Acertus acquires Fisher Shipping to expand its auto logistics platform

Fisher Shipping will keep operating under its existing banner, and its CEO Dave Fisher will receive an equity interest in Acertus as part of the deal.

Acertus, a finished vehicle transportation provider based in Overland Park, Kansas, announced it has acquired Fisher Shipping, a move aimed at consolidating the auto hauler sector to gain scale.

Acertus said the acquisition expands its network of carriers and customers, along with its relationships with OEMs and dealers. It also noted that Fisher Shipping will continue to operate under its existing banner and leadership team.

Under the transaction, Fisher Shipping’s CEO Dave Fisher will receive an equity interest in Acertus, and will manage customer and commercial relationships for the combined organization. Acertus said the combined setup gives Fisher Shipping access to its carrier network and platform, including fraud prevention and real-time shipment visibility.

The news comes as Proficient Auto Logistics, listed on NASDAQ as PAL, agreed to acquire Hansen & Adkins for $130 million, with the combined company expected to haul over four million vehicles annually, about one-quarter of the new car market, according to Yahoo Finance. Acertus and the other deal underscore a broader push toward consolidation for capacity and added technology in the car haul sector, FreightWaves reported.
