700-plus humanitarian trucks cross into Afghanistan via Pakistan border

The UN said 724 trucks entered through Torkham, as acute child malnutrition and hunger remain at critical levels in Afghanistan this year.

More than 700 trucks carrying international humanitarian aid have entered Afghanistan via Pakistan despite a near-total closure of the land border between the two countries after October clashes, the United Nations said Sunday.

Agence France-Presse reported that the UN OCHA spokeswoman said the convoy was carrying food and other critical humanitarian items, with UN resident and humanitarian coordinator for Pakistan Mo Yahya stating that 724 trucks crossed through Torkham to reach families in need.

The report also cited the World Food Programme warning in early August that acute child malnutrition has reached critical levels this year, alongside other pressures including climate-related disasters and the return of millions of Afghans since 2023.

WFP data referenced by the outlet said nearly 14 million Afghans are facing acute hunger.
