China to fly flags at half-mast for former premier Zhu Rongji

National flags will be lowered on Tuesday at Beijing sites including Tiananmen Square, and at locations in Hong Kong and Macau, before the cremation.

Former Chinese premier Zhu Rongji will be cremated in Beijing on Tuesday, and authorities will fly flags across China, including Hong Kong and Macau, at half-mast, according to SCMP Economy, citing Xinhua.

Zhu served as premier from 1998 to 2003 and helped guide China’s shift toward a more market-based economy, the outlet said.

SCMP Economy reported that national flags will be lowered at sites in Beijing, including Tiananmen Square, as well as at provincial government buildings, government locations in Hong Kong and Macau, and China’s overseas embassies and consulates.

In Hong Kong, the government said it would lower both national and regional flags at specified government sites and lower flags at key facilities including Admiralty, Government House, border checkpoints, and Hong Kong International Airport, with the mourning protocol aligned with those used for other former premiers.
