Ethereum pushes Glamsterdam upgrade to late 2026, targets 2027 Hegotá
Developers are already selecting what to include for Hegotá, with 66 proposals being assessed ahead of a finalized PFI list expected around Aug. 27.
Ethereum developers are restarting timelines for the network’s next major upgrade, now targeting the Glamsterdam upgrade for the fourth quarter of 2026, according to CryptoSlate. The move marks a shift from earlier expectations that Glamsterdam would land in the first half of 2026, with a later Hegotá follow-on in the year.
To support the revised schedule, developers have opened a new public testnet for Glamsterdam called Platåberget. The testnet is designed to run for several months and move testing across longer-lived environments on Sepolia and Hoodi testnets before mainnet activation.
CryptoSlate reports Glamsterdam includes breaking changes that will require updates for tools that assume a hardcoded maximum gas limit, including some wallets, indexers, and gas estimators. Ethereum developers are also shaping what comes next for Hegotá, including a current review of 66 proposals.
On Aug. 16, Ethereum researcher Toni Wahrstätter said network developers are assessing 66 proposals for Hegotá, with only a fraction expected to get implementation work and supporting devnets and testnets for a realistic 2027 release. The All Core Devs agenda gave developers about two weeks to narrow the field, with the Hegotá proposed-for-inclusion list expected to be finalized around Aug. 27, and client teams due to submit their preference lists by Sept. 10.
