Malaysia Airlines conducts drug tests after Indonesia arrest
Malaysia Aviation Group said the screening will test about 2,840 cabin crew starting Tuesday, with the program expected to end by September 3.
All pilots working for Malaysia Airlines tested negative for drugs after a mandatory screening, Malaysia Aviation Group said Monday, and the airline owner said its cabin crew testing will follow next.
The screening was ordered after a Malaysia Airlines pilot was arrested in Indonesia on drug trafficking charges on July 28, with authorities finding 26 kilograms of MDMA in his luggage upon arrival in Jakarta from Kuala Lumpur.
Customs authorities said urine tests showed the pilot had also been under the influence of cocaine and methamphetamine.
MAG said the next phase will screen about 2,840 cabin crew starting Tuesday and is expected to run through September 3.
