Strategy boosts cash buffer by selling more MSTR shares
The Nasdaq-listed firm added $149.1 million to its USD reserve, bringing its BTC reserve to 840,447 coins as of Aug. 16, 2026.
Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, said it went another week without buying or selling Bitcoin but increased its cash buffer by selling additional MSTR shares, according to a regulatory filing reported by Bitcoin Magazine.
The company sold 3,458,866 shares of MSTR common stock to raise about $333.7 million, adding $149.1 million to its USD reserve. Strategy also repurchased $132 million of $STRC, extending USD duration to 2.8 years, and it used $52.4 million to pay dividends on its STRC preferred stock.
As of Aug. 16, 2026, Strategy reported holding 840,447 BTC, alongside a $4.8 billion USD reserve. Bitcoin Magazine also notes the company’s MSTR stock is down more than 60% year-to-date in 2026.
Despite the cash-focused pivot in which it has relied on common stock sales rather than purchasing Bitcoin, the outlet says the company has reiterated its long-term Bitcoin posture remains unchanged. CEO Phong Le said in a prior comment that selling a small amount of Bitcoin relative to its total holdings is not central to its broader strategy, according to Bitcoin Magazine.
