Ecuador president seeks China action on shrimp and new energy mining deals
The eight-day visit in Beijing aims to lift suspensions affecting 14 Ecuadorian shrimp processors and secure new investment in energy and mining before the trip continues to Singapore and Vietnam.
Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa arrived in Beijing on Sunday for his first state visit to China, a trip scheduled to run until August 23 as part of an eight-day agenda focused on trade and investment.
According to SCMP Economy, Noboa is seeking to have China lift suspensions on 14 Ecuadorian shrimp processors, while also pursuing fresh investment in Ecuador’s energy and mining sectors.
SCMP Economy reports Noboa will hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping and meet Premier Li Qiang and Zhao Leji, China’s top legislator, as the visit includes full state-visit ceremonial protocol and expectations of deliverables.
The trip is Noboa’s second to China since June last year, when he and Xi witnessed the signing of a cooperation plan under the Belt and Road Initiative that Ecuador joined in 2018, the outlet added.
