CBRE says AI roles are driving office leasing in major tech hubs
CBRE said AI companies account for about 10 million square feet of leasing activity in San Francisco since 2023, with AI-related jobs making up nearly a third of U.S. tech-talent listings.
CBRE said U.S. and Canadian tech talent with artificial intelligence skills rose 45% over the past year, and AI-related roles now represent nearly a third of U.S. tech-talent job listings, according to its 13th annual Scoring Tech Talent report, reported by ConnectCRE.
The report found AI jobs are highly clustered, with 37% of U.S. AI roles located in the San Francisco Bay Area, New York City, Seattle and Washington, DC. In Canada, it said Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver hold 60% of AI jobs.
CBRE expects the AI industry’s momentum to support office markets in key hubs. It said San Francisco has been especially impacted, with AI companies accounting for 30% of leasing activity, about 10 million square feet, since 2023.
ConnectCRE quoted Colin Yasukochi, executive director of CBRE’s Tech Insights Center in San Francisco, saying AI is reshaping tech and job growth, and that U.S. AI-job growth has outpaced the broader tech-talent category, which grew by 1.8% last year even as the tech industry cut some non-AI jobs.
