Nvidia guarantees up to $105B for OpenAI data center lease in Ohio

The guarantee supports a Pike County, Ohio site targeting up to 8 gigawatts of capacity, with 800 megawatts expected to come online in 2028 and OpenAI signing for 20 years.

Nvidia has agreed to guarantee up to $105 billion to back an OpenAI data center lease in Pike County, Ohio, a project being developed by SoftBank-owned SB Energy, Yahoo Finance reports.

The facility is designed to scale to as much as 8 gigawatts of capacity, with the first 800 megawatts scheduled to be online in 2028, and OpenAI has signed on for a 20-year term, according to the report.

As part of the arrangement, Nvidia will invest $1.5 billion directly into SB Energy and will serve as the facility's exclusive chip supplier, extending the company's role in financing long-lived AI infrastructure built to run its hardware across multiple generations, Yahoo Finance said.

The report also links the Ohio guarantee to Nvidia's broader push to monetize the AI infrastructure buildout, citing expectations for faster revenue growth as it rolls out its Rubin platform and describing related demand from other customers, including SpaceX's plan to build AI infrastructure exclusively on Nvidia chips and target 10 gigawatts by the end of 2027.
