Commercial insurance premiums fell across account sizes in Q2 2026
CIAB said average premiums declined 2.0% in Q2, with commercial property dropping 6.3% even as umbrella premiums rose 5.3%.
Commercial insurance premiums declined in the second quarter of 2026, continuing a soft-market trend across account sizes, according to an industry survey from the Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers, as covered by Insurance Journal.
CIAB reported that average premiums fell by 2.0% across all accounts in Q2 2026. Large accounts saw a 3.7% decrease, medium accounts fell 1.9%, and small accounts declined by an average of 0.5%.
Commercial property premiums were the steepest drag, dropping 6.3% in Q2, with CIAB attributing at least part of the decline to carriers seeking to offset higher costs in other lines such as commercial auto and umbrella.
The survey also showed divergence by coverage type, with umbrella premiums rising 5.3% in Q2 2026 and commercial auto premiums increasing 4.5%. CIAB cited a surplus in property capacity, with 75% of respondents noting increased capacity for the line, as a factor weighing on pricing.
