Ether jumps 18% to $2,250 as bitcoin tops $69,000
The rally followed a move by the U.S. Treasury to at least double bond buyback operations, helping trigger about $1.4 billion in short liquidations across crypto.
Ether surged about 18% in 24 hours to just above $2,250, leading major cryptocurrencies higher as bitcoin pushed above $69,000, according to CoinDesk.
Bitcoin climbed to around $69,100 after trading near $69,900 overnight, and the broader rebound followed the U.S. Treasury’s decision to at least double its bond buyback operations. Traders also cited a bond market rally and President Trump’s call for Congress to advance crypto market-structure legislation.
CoinDesk reported that roughly $1.4 billion of short positions were liquidated in about four hours as risk appetite improved during the U.S. session. The move helped extend gains into Asia, with the 30-year U.S. yield down to 5.18% and the 10-year down to 4.63%.
Other major tokens also rose, including Solana up more than 10% to about $84.50 and XRP up about 10% to roughly $1.09. CoinDesk said Hyperliquid was the largest single gainer, rising over 19% to just under $70, while Tron was nearly flat and BNB gained about 3.5% but lagged the weekly pace of most majors.
