JLL tapped to advise Mare Island Maritime Campus repositioning

The 350-acre site in Vallejo spans about 2 million square feet and includes four operational dry docks, giving it infrastructure JLL says is difficult to replicate on the West Coast.

JLL has been retained to deliver strategic advisory and brokerage services for the Mare Island Maritime Campus in Vallejo, a 350-acre maritime industrial property with roughly two million square feet of existing buildings and four operational dry docks.

The campus, previously the Mare Island Naval Shipyard established in 1854 as the first permanent West Coast naval base, is being positioned to meet rising demand for domestic ship and submarine manufacturing, according to ConnectCRE.

JLL is advising The Nimitz Group, the owner of the maritime industrial land and assets, on repositioning the property's maritime infrastructure. The owner is considering flexible transaction approaches, including leasing individual assets or pursuing strategic partnerships with investors or tenants.

JLL co-leads on the assignment include Greg Matter and other senior advisors across multiple JLL teams. Matter said the four operational dry docks, deepwater access, and workforce-ready facilities were built once and are ready now for a maritime resurgence, which JLL characterized as a generational opportunity.
