Renaissance Technologies opens $572 million stake in CrowdStrike

The new position comes as CrowdStrike faces rising cloud-related eCrime activity and accelerating AI agent-triggered detections.

Renaissance Technologies, the hedge fund founded by the late Jim Simons, opened a new $572 million position in CrowdStrike Holdings, according to its Q2 2026 filing. The fund also nearly tripled its stake in Nvidia, increased its exposure to Meta Platforms, added Amazon.com, exited AppLovin, and cut Micron Technology sharply.

CrowdStrike has drawn more attention as cybersecurity conditions tighten, the report said. After Black Hat 2026 and the company’s latest threat report, cloud-related eCrime activity has risen 171% in recent periods.

The article also pointed to faster detection activity tied to AI agents. It said AI agent-triggered detections are increasing at 2.5 times the rate of human-triggered ones.

CrowdStrike is a cloud-based cybersecurity firm that protects endpoints, identities, cloud workloads, and data, and it has a market capitalization of $220.9 billion. The piece highlighted that CrowdStrike’s valuation remains elevated, including a 37.15 price-to-sales ratio versus a 3.50 sector median, and cited its June 4 quarter results showing $1.39 billion in revenue and 25.6% year-over-year growth. It also noted subscription gross margin improvements, with GAAP subscription gross margin rising to 78% and non-GAAP subscription gross margin reaching 81%, and operating losses narrowing toward profitability.
