TJX plans to accelerate TJ Maxx store openings in 2027
TJX raised its long-term global store target by 500 locations to 7,500, and said it is adding 4% more TJ Maxx openings in 2027.
TJX Cos. said it plans to accelerate store openings for TJ Maxx by 4% in 2027, according to the companys earnings release reported by Bisnow. The discount retailer also increased its long-term global store target by 500 locations to a total of 7,500 stores.
In the second quarter, TJX grew its overall store count by 23 locations and increased total square footage by 0.4% compared with the prior quarter, the release said. The company has 1,359 TJ Maxx locations in the United States and 1,267 Marshalls locations.
Globally, TJX operates just under 5,300 stores across a 137.9 million square foot portfolio that also includes HomeGoods and Sierra, Bisnow noted. CEO Ernie Herrman said the company remains confident in the long runway for growth and the opportunity to bring value to more consumers worldwide.
Bisnow added that TJX previously discussed expansion plans in February 2023, when Herrman said the company planned to open as many as 1,400 new stores without setting a timeline. The retailer has since increased its store count by about 500 locations, while other discount retailers such as Ross Stores and Burlington have also outlined sizable expansion plans.
