Gold rises in early trade as dollar and yields pull back
Gold December futures were last up to about $4,479.9 per troy ounce as the U.S. Dollar Index and the 10-year Treasury benchmark declined ahead of FOMC minutes.
Gold prices strengthened in early trading on Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026, with December gold futures rising after a lower open. Yahoo Finance said gold futures were up to $4,479.90 per troy ounce as of 8:53 a.m. ET, following an opening price of $4,391.40, down 0.7% from Tuesday’s close.
The report tied the move to a slight pullback in the U.S. dollar and Treasury yields. The U.S. Dollar Index was down 0.2%, and the benchmark CBOE Interest Rate 10 Year T Note, ^TNX, declined 0.4%, even as the 10-year yield remains near its 12-month high reached July 31.
Investors were also looking to upcoming Federal Reserve information. Yahoo Finance noted that traders were watching the FOMC minutes from the July meeting for signals on the Fed’s short-term rate outlook, with CME FedWatch estimating a 67.4% probability the Fed will hold rates steady at the September meeting.
The outlet added that the rate expectations backdrop matters for gold’s direction. It said gold has gained more than 10% over the last three weeks as rate-hike expectations have declined, with a potential rate increase typically weighing on gold by making yield-bearing assets more attractive.
