Silver rises early as rate-hike expectations cool
September silver futures opened at $63.43 per ounce, while the metal was around $65 at 8:55 a.m. ET.
Silver prices moved higher in early trading on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, with September futures opening at $63.43 per ounce, down 1% from Tuesday’s close, according to Yahoo Finance.
By 8:55 a.m. ET, silver had risen to about $65 after opening lower, a shift driven by an improving interest-rate outlook despite ongoing Middle East tensions.
Even with the morning bounce, silver remained down about 9% for the year, after earlier spikes in late January and a drop into negative territory in March, Yahoo Finance said.
The outlet also noted that silver’s industrial demand can make its price drivers more complex than gold’s, contributing to higher volatility, and said the current gold-to-silver ratio is near 68, within the long term average range of 50 to 80.
