MNRB lifts Q1 profit as Malaysian Re drives most of earnings

MNRB reported group profit after tax of RM183.8 million in Q1 FY2027, while Malaysian Re contributed RM140.2 million and helped raise ROE to 15.0% from 11.2%.

MNRB Holdings Berhad said its wholly owned subsidiary, Malaysian Reinsurance Berhad, delivered profit after tax of RM140.2 million in the first quarter of the financial year ending 31 March 2027, up 25.1% year over year from RM112.1 million.

Malaysian Re accounted for 76.3% of MNRB’s overall profit after tax, with growth supported by steadier insurance and takaful service results and improved investment results, including higher unrealised foreign exchange gains, Reinsurance News reported.

The group also cited portfolio expansion and deeper international presence during the quarter, including a strategic partnership with China Re Life aimed at Malaysia’s first dedicated reinsurance framework for Cancer Precision Medicine treatment coverage.

Separately, following shareholder approval at an Extraordinary General Meeting on 14 August 2026, MNRB’s proposed Labuan Re acquisition remains subject to remaining conditions and regulatory approvals. The deal would involve MNRB acquiring the remaining 80% equity interest in Labuan Re for about $100.69 million in cash.
