AUDUSD hits highest level since early June as USD sells off
The Australian dollar gained 0.86% versus the US dollar, topping 0.7178, after a US Treasury announcement triggered broader USD selling.
Forexlive reports that AUDUSD is the biggest mover among major FX pairs, rising 0.86% to reach its highest level since early June. The pair hit a high of 0.7178 as the session pushed toward its next upside area in the 0.71993 to 0.7200 swing zone.
The move followed choppy trading earlier in the week, with AUDUSD slipping to test the 50% retracement of the May 1, 2026 high to the June low at 0.7070. The decline briefly pushed the pair below that 50% retracement, but it failed to extend down to the nearby 100-day moving average, after which buyers stepped in and drove a sharp recovery.
Forexlive attributes the later surge to a US Treasury announcement and subsequent broad USD selling. The gains also coincided with higher commodity prices, with gold and silver sharply higher, and bitcoin climbing another 6.45% on the day.
Technically, Forexlive says AUDUSD is extending away from the 61.8% retracement level at 0.71193, which together with earlier weekly highs near 0.71317 is now viewed as an important support zone. The bullish technical view remains intact while price holds above 0.71193 to 0.71317, with a move back below that support expected to weaken the upside bias.
