Hong Kong to launch AI for All training program in November
The HK$50 million initiative is expected to run more than 200 activities and reach 50,000 people over two years.
HousingWire reports that Hong Kong’s employees retraining board will partner with major tech firms to roll out an “AI for All” training programme for the working population starting in November. According to Hong Kong Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po, the programme was announced in the city’s February budget and is funded at HK$50 million, about US$6.4 million. Chan said it will include more than 200 activities and is expected to benefit 50,000 people within two years.
Chan also said frontier technology development and adoption will create challenges for the job market, prompting a need to help residents build skills and apply them at work. He added that Hong Kong’s many small and medium-sized enterprises, due to their agility, will be supported as the city navigates this technology shift.
SCMP Economy cited Chan’s remarks that a survey found nearly 70% of Hong Kong residents are proficient in using AI, while about 20% are highly proficient and use AI agents to automate daily tasks. Chan further noted an estimate that if local SMEs catch up to large corporations in AI adoption by 2035, it could unlock up to HK$65 billion in economic value.
