Wheeled and arm robots gain ground at Beijing robot conference

X Square Robot said its two-armed WALL-B sorted 1,816 packages in a controlled test this month, compared with Figure AI’s bipedal model averaging 1,248 parcels an hour.

Humanoid robots drew large crowds at the World Robot Conference in Beijing, but other robot designs, including wheeled machines and robotic arms, gained attention as the industry moves from demonstrations to deployment, according to coverage by SCMP Economy.

At Unitree Robotics’ booth, bipedal models were shown playing table tennis and facing off in fighting-match style performances, highlighting speed, balance, and coordination.

Elsewhere, SCMP Economy said robots were used for practical tasks such as sorting parcels, loading production lines, and moving materials, with some using wheels instead of legs and others relying on robotic arms.

SCMP Economy highlighted a controlled test this month by China’s X Square Robot, where its two-armed WALL-B embodied model sorted 1,816 packages. The company also said the system was more efficient than US start-up Figure AI’s bipedal Figure 03 robot, which handled an average of 1,248 parcels an hour.
