Indian stocks end second straight week lower on crude, yields

Nifty closed at 24,252 after slipping about 0.47% for the week, while Sensex settled at 77,540.83, down nearly 0.60%.

Indian benchmark stocks closed the week in a cautious mood as investors weighed crude oil that stayed elevated, rising global bond yields, and ongoing geopolitical tensions. Trading was volatile, with indexes trying to recover at points before ending Friday largely flat.

On a weekly basis, the Nifty slipped about 0.47% to finish at 24,252, while the Sensex declined nearly 0.60% to settle at 77,540.83. Despite the softer week for benchmarks, SmallCap rose around 1.2% and MidCap was roughly unchanged, edging marginally lower.

For the next session, attention is expected to focus on three themes, according to LiveMint Markets, the Federal Reserve policy trajectory, Nvidia's upcoming quarterly results, and the unresolved U.S.-Iran conflict. The outlet said the interaction between crude oil, U.S. Treasury yields, and the dollar is likely to remain critical for Indian equities, with investors also tracking the rupee and institutional flows.

LiveMint Markets also noted that, with much of the June-quarter earnings season already behind the market, global macroeconomic and geopolitical developments are expected to play a bigger role in near-term direction. On Friday specifically, the Sensex finished nearly unchanged after a range-bound session, ending with a gain of about 3 points.
