US AI and supply chain plans are doomed to fail, says Chinese academic
The political scientist warned that blocking US firms from access to low-cost Chinese models could backfire, and argued the US and China should collaborate to spur global growth.
A prominent Chinese political scientist says US efforts to secure AI supply chains are likely to fail, citing the impact of the escalating technological rivalry between the United States and China.
In the view highlighted by SCMP Economy, Washington has created international groupings meant to curb Beijing’s momentum and strengthen supply chains across areas including artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and critical minerals.
The academic also argued that restrictions aimed at limiting US companies’ access to lower-cost Chinese AI models would backfire, rather than improving long term outcomes.
SCMP Economy added that Axios previously reported the White House was considering adding several Chinese AI labs to a blacklist that could restrict their ability to use US technology.
