Olam Agri switches on rooftop solar at Ghana wheat processing hub
The system will add 2.2 million kWh of clean power and cut annual CO2 emissions by 1,282 tonnes at its pasta and flour factories in Tema.
Olam Agri has activated a rooftop solar power system at its integrated wheat processing hub in Tema, Ghana, as part of its decarbonization push, World Grain reports. The installation uses 2,690 solar panels intended to supply clean electricity for the company’s pasta and flour factories at the site.
According to World Grain, the rooftop system is expected to generate 2.2 million kWh of clean energy and reduce CO2 emissions by 1,282 tonnes each year. The outlet also notes Olam Agri compared the impact to planting more than 2,690 trees annually.
World Grain further said the Ghana project aligns with the company’s broader renewable energy progress, with about 50% of energy powering its companywide operations already coming from renewable sources. It also cited that solar generation more than doubled in 2025, and Scope 1 and 2 emissions were reduced 41% from a 2022 baseline, according to Olam Agri.
Olam Agri described the effort as turning sustainability ambition into action, investing in solutions to support its people, strengthen operations, and protect the environment, World Grain added. Ghana is identified by the outlet as one of the company’s key West African markets, spanning grain importing and processing, wheat milling, pasta manufacturing, rice distribution, agricultural sourcing, warehousing, and export activities.
