Bitcoin tops $80,000 for first time since May as rebound gathers
Spot bitcoin ETFs in the US pulled in about $1.9 billion of inflows last week, the strongest weekly total since October 2025.
Bitcoin climbed above $80,000 for the first time since May 15, extending its rebound from a June selloff, CoinDesk reported. The latest move pushed bitcoin up roughly 38% from late-June and early-July lows when it briefly fell below $58,000, with gains broadening across crypto markets over the past week.
The recovery has coincided with expectations tied to US Treasury policy, CoinDesk said. The outlet pointed to Treasury plans to try to cap or bring down long-term interest rates, alongside relief from falling Treasury yields that helped ease pressure from tight financial conditions.
CoinDesk also cited demand for traditional access to the asset, noting that US-listed spot bitcoin ETFs pulled in about $1.9 billion last week, the largest weekly inflow since October 2025. It linked the push higher to Treasury actions including doubling planned long-dated bond buybacks through early November and floating the possibility of tapping the nearly $1 trillion General Account to help fund those purchases.
Looking ahead, CoinDesk said markets are focused on macro data this week, including the release of the Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge, the PCE report. It quoted Infinox regional director Thadeu Dos Santos, saying core PCE will be watched for signs underlying price pressures are moderating, with a firmer read potentially supporting Treasury yields and the dollar, while softer inflation could reduce expectations for further monetary tightening.
