China probes surged in Xi anti-corruption drive, SCMP data shows

Investigations into civilian officials at vice-ministerial grade or above rose to 65 last year, versus 19 in 2013.

A deep dive by the South China Morning Post finds that Chinese President Xi Jinping’s corruption crackdown has accelerated even after more than a decade of investigations.

The outlet cites internal CCDI research showing 65 probes into civilian officials of vice-ministerial grade or above last year, compared with 19 in 2013, when Xi took office.

The story also notes that the CCDI is China’s top disciplinary body, responsible for investigating senior officials as part of the campaign.
