Hong Kong bans jewellery shop from tour groups for 30 days
The Travel Industry Authority said the suspension runs from Wednesday through September 24, tied to a February complaint involving a mainland tour group.
Hong Kong’s tourism watchdog has suspended a jewellery shop’s ability to receive inbound tour groups for 30 days after it found the business did not stop a guide from coercing mainland Chinese visitors into making purchases, according to SCMP Economy.
The Travel Industry Authority said Kaiser Jewellery International will be barred from taking any inbound tour group visitors from Wednesday until September 24, adopting a zero-tolerance approach toward coerced shopping and conduct that harms the tourism industry’s reputation.
SCMP Economy reported its checks found two locations operated by the company on the TIA list of registered shops, including a branch at Hankow Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui trading as “KJI Super Mall” and another at Harbourside HQ in Kowloon Bay.
The Kowloon Bay site is marked as “registration suspended,” while the company has filed an appeal for review and a hearing has been scheduled, the outlet added, noting the action stems from a case involving a mainland tour group in February.
