Hong Kong to revamp senior secondary science and extended maths from 2029-30

The Education Bureau plans to release draft updates for science subject curriculum, physics, chemistry, and biology, for consultation ahead of finalising the changes for the next academic year.

Hong Kong education authorities will revamp the senior secondary school science and extended maths curriculum, adding new syllabus options starting in the 2029-30 academic year, as part of a push to draw more students to science and mathematics. In a blog post, Edith Tse Yuen-ching, principal assistant secretary for innovation technology education, said the city is strengthening the cultivation of innovation and technology talent to meet the development needs of the country and Hong Kong, according to SCMP Economy.

The Education Bureau said it has released for consultation a draft of the updated curriculum and assessment for science subjects, covering physics, chemistry, and biology. It plans to brief educators early next month before finalising the draft in the next academic year.

Schools have been invited to submit their views on the curriculum revamp by the end of next month, SCMP Economy reported.
