Puerto Rico saw longer non-storm power outages in 2025

Average non major event power interruptions rose to 36 hours in 2025, versus roughly 29 hours per year on average from 2021 to 2025.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reports that in 2025, Puerto Rico customers experienced an average of 36 hours of power interruptions that were not caused by major events such as hurricanes.

That figure was 19% higher than in 2024, and it compares with an average of 29 hours of power loss per year for Puerto Rican customers over the 2021 to 2025 period.

The EIA also notes that electricity customers on the mainland United States generally experience about two hours of electricity interruption.
