Singapore home thefts rise about 25% in first half of 2026
Dwelling-case thefts were 459 in the first six months of 2026, up 25.1% from 367 a year earlier, while overall physical crime edged down 0.4% to 10,287 cases.
Home thefts in Singapore rose sharply in the first half of 2026, even as the broader physical crime picture stayed broadly stable, according to a midyear crime briefing cited by SCMP Economy.
The police reported 459 thefts in dwelling cases at residential premises from January through June, up 25.1% from 367 in the same period of 2025. Theft in dwelling cases across all types of premises rose slightly to 730, from 726.
The briefing said dwelling-case thefts accounted for about 7.1% of all physical crime cases and that such incidents were often linked to belongings being left unsecured or unattended. Police also attributed much of the increase to incidents at residential premises involving people with access to, or familiarity with, the premises.
Police described Singapore’s overall physical crime as stable, noting physical crime cases fell 0.4% to 10,287 from 10,325 a year earlier, with robbery at 12 cases and snatch theft at nine cases from January to June. They advised residents and co-tenants to store personal belongings securely and not leave valuables unattended in shared common areas.
