Theft in Singapore homes rises 25.1% in first half of 2026

Singapore police recorded 459 thefts in dwelling cases at residential premises from January to June, accounting for about 7.1% of all physical crime.

In Singapore, theft in dwellings at residential premises increased in the first half of 2026 even as overall physical crime stayed stable, according to the country’s midyear crime brief for 2026 cited by SCMP Economy and reporting from CNA.

Police said there were 459 thefts in dwelling cases at residential premises from January to June, up 25.1% from 367 cases in the same period of 2025. Theft in dwelling cases across all types of premises rose slightly, by 0.6%, to 730 cases from 726.

The police attributed the uptick largely to theft incidents at residential premises involving people who had access to or were familiar with the premises. They said theft in dwelling cases typically occurred when belongings were left unsecured or unattended, creating opportunities for theft.

As context, police reported physical crime cases fell 0.4% to 10,287 from 10,325 over the same period last year. Robbery and snatch theft recorded 12 and nine cases respectively, and police advised residents and property occupiers to secure personal belongings and avoid leaving valuables unattended in common spaces and shared facilities.
