American Cancer Society to build 32nd Hope Lodge in Hyde Park
The Hyde Park lodge will be funded through more than $10M in support from UChicago Medicine and Rush, toward an $82M construction goal.
Housing support is set to expand on Chicago's South Side, with the American Cancer Society planning its 32nd Hope Lodge, a program that provides no-cost lodging and supportive services for patients who must travel for treatment.
The new building is slated for Hyde Park, with UChicago Medicine backing the effort by contributing the land for the future site at 5700 S. Stony Island Ave. UChicago Medicine will also provide a $5M philanthropic investment, and support from Rush University System for Health brings total backing for the campaign to more than $10M, toward the $82M goal to construct the lodge.
Bisnow also noted the project’s fundraising rationale, citing the high cost of lodging that can become a financial barrier when patients and families are already managing other expenses during cancer care. In addition, the outlet listed other local real estate developments and hires, including Inland Real Estate Group naming a new chief compliance officer and several commercial and multifamily transaction updates across Chicago-area neighborhoods.
