China wins IEC approval for automotive solid-state battery standard work item
The China-led proposal would set testing specifications for EV rechargeable lithium-ion solid-state batteries, covering application guidelines and test conditions.
China has secured approval for a new international standard work item for automotive solid-state batteries through the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), a step that strengthens its role in shaping rules for emerging EV power technology, according to SCMP Economy. The proposal, led by China with input from technical experts in France, Japan, South Korea and other countries, defines application guidelines and testing items and conditions for rechargeable lithium-ion solid-state batteries used in electric vehicles. The State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) said the framework will draw on domestic research and development benchmarks to standardize testing specifications, which are viewed as a next frontier for EV power systems. SCMP Economy also highlighted that the effort comes as global competition in advanced technologies intensifies, with countries using standard-setting to build long-term industrial influence, and a Chinese researcher said overseas markets may face fewer changes to meet requirements when the standards are based on Chinese products.
