Coverys names Walter Grote chief underwriting officer

Grote, with more than 35 years of P&C underwriting experience, will oversee Coverys underwriting across short and long term expansion plans.

Coverys, an insurance and reinsurance provider serving medical professional liability and healthcare lines, has appointed Walter Grote as its new Chief Underwriting Officer.

In the role, Grote will direct Coverys underwriting functions across property and casualty, management liability, and specialty programmes, with responsibility that includes supporting both short- and long-term organisational expansion, according to Reinsurance News.

Grote brings more than 35 years of high-level P&C insurance and underwriting experience. Most recently, he served as CUO and Regional President of the Wholesale Binding division of Bridge Specialty Group, the wholesale arm of Brown and Brown Insurance, where he developed underwriting strategies and practices.

Before that, Grote led Arrowhead Core Commercial as President, and earlier held senior underwriting and leadership roles at QBE North America, Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty, Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company, and Travelers, including CUO and Chief Operating Officer for Travelers’ Middle Market and Commercial Accounts division. Coverys CEO Joseph Murphy said Grote can bridge profitable growth and operational excellence, and Grote highlighted Coverys 50-year leadership and its disciplined approach to portfolio diversification and profitability.
