Zhipu AI unveils GLM-5.3-Flash model using 100,000 domestic chips

The model is credited with processing 62 trillion tokens in a stealth trial and became OpenRouter’s biggest launch to date after first days totaling over 11 trillion tokens.

China’s Zhipu AI has launched an open-weight artificial intelligence model, GLM-5.3-Flash, previously code-named Ox Alpha, saying it ran entirely on a cluster of 100,000 domestically produced chips during a high-profile stealth trial, according to SCMP Economy.

The rollout followed a week of heavy use on AI model marketplace OpenRouter and agent platform OpenCode. Zhipu said the model processed 62 trillion tokens before its formal release on Wednesday, SCMP Economy reported.

After the preview period, the model also drew top usage on OpenRouter. SCMP Economy said it processed more than 11 trillion tokens in its first three days on the platform, and that it ranked first among coding systems on Thursday, accounting for 10.3 trillion tokens, or nearly 31 per cent of total weekly volume.

Zhipu’s shares rose after the announcement, with SCMP Economy reporting that they closed more than 12 per cent higher at HK$1,160 in Hong Kong on Thursday.
