Bitcoin tops $80,000 as Schwab expands retail crypto to Solana, peers

Charles Schwab said it will add Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink to Schwab Crypto accounts in coming months, as spot Solana ETFs pulled in $1.23 billion since launch.

Bitcoin traded above $80,000 on Thursday after Charles Schwab told clients it will widen the list of tokens available in Schwab Crypto accounts, giving retail access to Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink.

The three added tokens outperformed bitcoin and ether in the day’s moves, with SOL up 12.9%, Chainlink up 5.5% and Avalanche up 3.6%, versus bitcoin up 2.1% and ether up 1.5%. Bitcoin last changed hands at $80,020, according to CoinGecko data cited by The Defiant, up 2.1% on the day and 10.4% over seven days.

The Defiant also cited data showing U.S. spot Solana ETFs have taken in $1.23 billion since launch, including $3.6 million of net inflows on Wednesday. Total crypto market value stood at $2.79 trillion, up 2.2% over 24 hours, with $99.4 billion in volume and bitcoin dominance at 57.6%.

Schwab said the new token access will roll out over the coming months and that its broader platform has carried bitcoin and ether since May. The company did not provide specific dates or client or asset figures, and a Schwab executive said the additions align with its approach to offer familiar cryptocurrencies alongside education and support for clients’ investing goals, The Defiant reported.
