Hippo expands homeowners insurance availability into 14 more states

Hippo says its Hippo Homeowners Insurance Program will grow from 8 to 22 states by the fourth quarter and is planning to serve as a fronting carrier for more than $500 million in annual gross written premiums across Accelerant's U.S. portfolio in 2027.

Hippo said its Hippo Homeowners Insurance Program will expand to 14 additional states through relationships with national distribution partners, increasing the program’s availability from 8 to 22 states in the fourth quarter, according to Coverager.

Starting in the fourth quarter, the program will be available to homeowners beyond the newly built home channel in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, Indiana, Michigan, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin.

Coverager also reports that Hippo said it strengthened underwriting, diversified its business, and built technology to improve control over where and how it grows, positioning the company for what it described as selective expansion when underwriting economics are attractive.

Hippo’s Hippo+ offering combines homeowners insurance with home warranty protection, proactive home care services, and access to dedicated advisors, and the company will serve as a fronting carrier for more than $500 million in annual gross written premiums across Accelerant’s U.S. portfolio in 2027.
