Mayor Mamdani forms business advisory council for New York private sector
The council will meet quarterly and feed input into efforts to sustain New York’s employment momentum, with jobs in the five boroughs at 4,852,400 as of July 2026.
New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani is convening a quarterly Business Advisory Council aimed at gathering feedback from private sector leaders on the administration’s priorities for the city’s economy, according to Commercial Observer.
The administration said the group includes 15 business leaders, among them RXR’s Scott Rechler, with the mayor’s office pointing to both office leasing figures and employment strength as part of the rationale for the council.
The outlet cited data from a report released by the New York City Economic Development Corporation showing employment in the five boroughs reached 4,852,400 jobs as of July 2026, along with more than 6,000 private sector jobs added in the first half of the year.
Commercial Observer also noted the announcement follows prior criticism from private industry leaders tied to the mayor’s pied-à-terre tax, and it listed other council members with real estate connections, including Vornado Realty Trust’s Steve Roth, Steiner Studios Chairman Doug Steiner, and Amalgamated Bank President and CEO Priscilla Sims Brown.
