NEXA Lending acquisition revives UMortgage ties among AIME members
NEXA said it will cover AIME memberships for about 4,100 loan officers after acquiring UMortgage.
Mike Kortas and Anthony Casa, prominent figures in the mortgage brokerage industry, have moved past their long-running feud as NEXA Lending announced it will acquire UMortgage.
The reconciliation also pulls them back toward the Association of Independent Mortgage Experts, or AIME, where Casa founded the group in 2017 and later took a leave of absence in 2020 after the dispute involving Rocket Mortgage executive Austin Niemiec. The case was dismissed with prejudice in April 2022.
Kortas had cut ties with AIME in 2022, saying the trade group did not adequately address bullying and online attacks and disputing whether it provided bylaws or established an ethics committee. AIME denied those claims at the time, saying it had created an ethics committee and was revising bylaws.
In its acquisition announcement, NEXA said it plans to cover AIME memberships for about 4,100 loan officers as Casa seeks a role as membership director, according to HousingWire. NEXA also said loan officers can decide individually whether to remain AIME members.
