Amazon signs 600 MW carbon-free PPA for German Baltic Sea wind
The deal is expected to help deliver power to the equivalent of more than one million German households annually, while Amazon’s carbon-free capacity in Sweden nears 1 GW.
Amazon has agreed to purchase 600 megawatts of carbon-free electricity from the Gennaker offshore wind farm in the German Baltic Sea, expanding its power purchase agreement footprint as electricity demand rises for AI and data centers, OilPrice reports.
The e-commerce and cloud giant said the PPA, signed in June, provides developer Skyborn Renewables with the financial certainty to proceed with construction and that the project, once operational, is expected to generate enough electricity to power the equivalent of more than one million German households each year, according to the report.
Amazon also announced four additional PPAs in Sweden to buy power from four new wind projects. With the new agreements, its total carbon-free energy capacity in Sweden is closing in on 1 gigawatt, representing electricity for more than 350,000 Swedish households annually, OilPrice reported.
The four Swedish wind farms are being developed by Eolus AB and OX2 AB, and Amazon said the new deals bring its total investment to nine utility-scale wind projects in Sweden.
