Hong Kong earmarks HK$50 million for Nepal-Tibet flood victims
The funding comes from Hong Kong’s Disaster Relief Fund and the advisory committee plans to process applications swiftly, after floods killed hundreds and left thousands missing.
Hong Kong’s government has set aside HK$50 million, or US$6.3 million, from its Disaster Relief Fund for people affected by deadly flash floods near Nepal’s border with China’s Tibet region, according to SCMP Economy.
Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu announced the allocation in a Facebook post on Saturday, saying the Disaster Relief Fund Advisory Committee would grant applications swiftly for those seeking help.
The floods were triggered after a huge wall of mud and rock collapsed into a river along the Himalayan border between Nepal and China’s Tibet on Wednesday, leaving hundreds dead and thousands missing.
