Hongkongers can use ID or home return permit at Huanggang Port

The revamped Huanggang checkpoint is expected to handle 200,000 passenger trips per day under a joint clearance system.

Hongkongers traveling via the revamped Huanggang Port will be able to present either their Hong Kong identity card or their home return permit, rather than using both documents, under a new arrangement with mainland Chinese authorities, Hong Kong security minister Chris Tang Ping-keung said.

Tang made the announcement after a drill at the crossing that involved more than 20,000 civil servants to simulate peak stress on the building’s capacity.

According to SCMP Economy, Huanggang Port is expected to process 200,000 passenger trips per day and will use a joint clearance model, under which passengers complete departure and arrival clearance at a single checkpoint and present one travel document at either automatic or manual counters.
