Inszone buys 60-year Michigan farm insurance agency
Inszone said Aviza, founded in 1966, will help it expand agricultural coverage in Michigan as USDA disaster designations cover multiple counties after 2024 to 2025 weather losses.
Inszone Insurance Services has acquired Aviza Insurance Agency, a 60-year-old farm and agribusiness specialist based in Coldwater, Michigan, extending the brokerage's push into agricultural coverage, according to Insurance Business.
Aviza was founded in 1966 and served Coldwater and the surrounding Tri-State region with farm, commercial, home, auto, and health coverage. The current owner, Jake Eby, took over in 2016 and said he chose a buyer that could protect existing clients while giving him a return path to agent work rather than ongoing ownership duties.
The deal comes as Michigan farmers continue recovering from consecutive weather-related disruptions. Insurance Business notes that the USDA's Farm Service Agency designated 13 primary Michigan counties as natural disaster areas after severe winter storms in late March 2025, following an earlier USDA designation covering 15 counties affected by drought, excessive rain, and frost and freeze conditions through 2024 and into 2025.
The acquisition also reflects rising demand for farm risk protection nationally. Insurance Business cites figures showing farmers bought a record 2.54 million crop insurance policies in 2025, covering 561 million acres and providing more than $159.3 billion in liability protection, while ranchers added $40.2 billion in livestock coverage liability.
