Spacial adds NYU professor Ravid Shwartz-Ziv as scientific adviser

Spacial says its AI platform can convert 2D architectural plans into stamped structural and MEP permit sets in days, with licensed engineer review.

Spacial, an AI engineering platform for residential construction, announced that Ravid Shwartz-Ziv has joined the company as a scientific adviser, according to Commercial Observer.

Shwartz-Ziv is an assistant professor and faculty fellow at New York University’s Center for Data Science. He leads LLM research focused on using information theory to explain what neural networks learn, and will work with Spacial’s research and engineering teams on major technology decisions and the company’s research road map.

Spacial’s platform converts 2D architectural drawings into 3D, code-compliant construction documents that include design conflict detection, architectural detailing, and local code validation. The company says it can turn 2D plans into stamped structural and mechanical, electrical and plumbing permit sets in days using AI, plus licensed engineer review.

In the announcement, Spacial co-founder and CEO Maor Greenberg said the company aims to address the lack of shared standards for proving that AI-generated plans are accurate and code-compliant, and that Shwartz-Ziv’s expertise will help add that rigor. Greenberg also said Shwartz-Ziv will guide the evolution of a model trained to understand buildings as systems of physical relationships to support permit-ready engineering documents.
