Hong Kong pushes Northern Metropolis land disposal to reshape economy
Hong Kong’s finance chief says the scheme is meant to channel market investment into industrial development as part of a broader technology, industry, and talent strategy.
Hong Kong is moving to fast-track the Northern Metropolis through a “large-scale land disposal” scheme, a strategy the finance chief said is central to the territory’s economic restructuring.
According to SCMP Economy, Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said the project’s success depends on attracting “high-value-added, high-potential industries and high-quality companies” to establish themselves in the area, with market forces directed toward industrial development.
Chan added that the government has set a long-term vision, conducted planning, and removed barriers, while leaving room for market participants to invest, guide industries, and carry out commercial operations.
SCMP Economy reported Chan described the effort as building momentum toward the “integrated development of technology, industry and talent,” tying the land disposal plan to that wider goal.
