Vietnam builds a data-driven system to steer national strategy

Vietnam has spent more than a decade building a data-driven public administration, with ministries tracking performance indicators and provinces reporting standardized metrics that the central government then aggregates across localities, according to SCMP Economy.

The focus is increasingly shifting from collecting data to using it for strategic direction. SCMP Economy reports that the challenge is to turn operational data capacity into a governance framework that supports national strategy.

The article says reform efforts over the past two years have included appointing a central commission for strategy and policy, intended to link nationwide goals directly to Vietnam’s data systems and prevent ministries and provinces from pursuing disconnected agendas.
