Luke Dashjr resigns from mining pool Ocean and launches Convoy

Ocean said it will keep running its transparent, non-custodial pool that pays rewards directly to miners, even as Mummolin repurchases Dashjr’s stake.

CoinDesk reports that Bitcoin developer Luke Dashjr has resigned from the mining pool Ocean, with parent firm Mummolin repurchasing his entire equity stake in the company.

The outlet says the separation was by mutual agreement, with both sides citing differing views on the future of Bitcoin mining and pointing to recent protocol developments, though they did not disclose the value of the buyback.

After leaving Ocean, Dashjr plans to launch a new mining venture called Convoy. Ocean said it will continue operating its transparent, non-custodial pool that pays mining rewards directly to participating miners.

CoinDesk adds that the move follows weeks after Dashjr took a sabbatical from Ocean after the failure of BIP-110, a controversial attempt to temporarily restrict the storage of non-financial data on Bitcoin. The report notes that mining remains concentrated and under strain, with publicly traded miners cutting hashrate and leasing sites and power to AI and high-performance computing.
