Sberbank forecasts $46.4B crypto exchange trading in first year under new law
The forecast cites regulated trading rules starting Sept. 1, 2026, with some issuance and circulation provisions taking effect a year later, on Sept. 1, 2027.
Russia’s largest bank, Sberbank, expects regulated crypto trading on exchanges to reach as much as 4 trillion rubles, about $46.4 billion, in the first year after new crypto legislation takes effect, according to The Block citing state news agency TASS.
Sberbank said the framework begins on Sept. 1, 2026, while some provisions governing the issuance and circulation of crypto assets are scheduled to start on Sept. 1, 2027.
The Block reports that Sberbank’s deputy chairman Anatoly Popov also projected regulated trading volume could grow to roughly 7.5 trillion rubles, about $87.1 billion, by 2029, as TASS said.
The outlet also notes Popov told TASS the bank plans to issue loans secured by bitcoin, ether, and USDT once approvals are in place with Russia’s central bank, and that Sberbank is preparing additional crypto services including a wallet planned for its apps by early December.
